Anna Sayburn has a favourite painting at the Gallery:
I love the fresh, clear colours of this little portrait. It’s so simple, but quite arresting. This renaissance gentleman gazes cooly across the centuries, with serene poise. I find it hard to believe it was painted in around 1500, because it makes such a direct connection with the viewer.
