Home Truths and Taking Shape
Randy Klein is an artist originally from New York now living and working in London. He is based in Nunhead. In addition to over 30 solo exhibitions, Klein has been very active in the field of environmental and community art projects. Home Truths and Taking Shape are two films which were made as part of two very different public art projects.
Randy says:
Home Truths was an artist residency funded by the Arts Council. I worked with Thames Reach, a homelessness charity. The project explored the idea of ‘What is a Home’ with former homeless people, who were now in the process of establishing a more stable life. In the film, three clients of Thames Reach now settled in permanent housing, take us back to the streets to show us how and where they lived rough.
Taking Shape is a film which follows an environmental arts project at Goodrich School, in East Dulwich. Engaging with the children’s imagination, the film records the entire project of a change to the Nursery playground. Through artist led workshops, the ideas of the children are applied to a new look school playground.
Randy showed one of his other films, Taxi Driver at the last Late – the American one. Look carefully at the video from the evening – he is the one silhouetted in front of the screen – a wonderful profile!
