Dulwich – Then and Now (Part 2)

by Angie Macdonald

I’m always wondering what places looked like fifty or a hundred years ago. Back in March, in Part 1 of Dulwich – Then and Now, I looked at photographs of Court Lane in 1905 and 2008. This week I wandered down Lordship Lane to East Dulwich. The photograph above, courtesy of Southwark Library and Information Service, is circa 1900.

Spot the difference? More cars and traffic, obviously, but in some respects it does appear that Lordship Lane has actually improved over the years. Trees have been planted on the right hand side of the road and pretty pastel shades have replaced the redbrick flats above the shops.

Do you know of any other major changes in this section of Lordship Lane over the years? Do either of the photographs bring back memories for you? If so, we’d love to hear from you. Why not Leave a Reply in the box below.
