Caroline Dunmall, Administrator of Dulwich Helpline , describes this local partnership and the forthcoming Mahler concert.
This Saturday sees the 3rd concert in an exciting partnership between the JAGS Community Orchestra and local charity Dulwich Helpline ‘An Evening With Mahler’
Dulwich Helpline were thrilled when we were contacted last Autumn by the Director of Music of JAGS Community Orchestra, Leigh O’Hara, who said that they would like to build a long-term relationship with us, and to hold their thrice-yearly concerts in support of our work in the community with isolated older people.
Another successful, and well-established, partnership is with the Dulwich Picture Gallery. For example, 4 of Dulwich Helpline’s activity groups benefitted from the Gallery’s “Good Times” project. This literally brought art out to older people in the community, and in turn overcame barriers about art and galleries in an enjoyable way.
Dulwich Helpline has a loyal team of volunteers who provide friendship to older people who are housebound, and provide practical help such as gardening, accompanied shopping, and odd jobs round the home.
We also organise and run over 20 different activity groups, which include Poetry, Music, Art Appreciation, Gentle Exercise…..and more, and volunteer transport or a minibus is very often provided for these.
For more information on using our services, or on becoming a volunteer, telephone 020 8299 2623 or email info@dulwich-helpline.org.uk
