“Hello, my name is Jessica, I’m a Dulwich resident, and I recently set up the vibrant new Dulwich Jewellery School based on Court Lane.  Myself and a small team of tutors are really excited about all the new classes we have lined up for 2009 which include, silver metal clay classes, beading, glass work, polymer clay, tiara making and much more. I suppose you could call us a modern or alternative Jewellery School as we offer classes and training in all modern areas of jewellery, as well as some traditional methods too.  Lots of images of what our students make can be found on our flickr site.

One of our main areas of specialism is working with a fantastic new material called Metal Clay. It is basically a clay containing lots of mini silver particles, so it allows you to work with silver with the ease of shaping clay. Once the clay is fired in a kiln or under a torch, all the clay is burnt away and you are left with a solid silver piece of jewellery, its like magic!

Most of our classes run on the weekends and are for adults but we also run evening classes and mid-week classes as well as children’s jewellery parties and workshops in local schools and libraries, so there really is something for everyone.

The jewellery parties are really popular and great fun, especially for children’s birthdays – Beautiful Beading, Fun Fimo, Ribbon Jewellery and Sweet Jewellery. One of our party leaders runs the parties, taking all the stress and hassle out of it, and of course the kids love it!

I set up the jewellery school early in 2008 after completing numerous jewellery training courses and experimenting with making jewellery as well as teaching workshops for over 3 years. Its so exciting that it has all finally come together and our classes have become really popular throughout London and the UK with many students travelling far and wide to take our lessons. The furthest anyone has travelled so far is from China! But most are from London, England or Europe.

We are really keen for local residents to get involved with our programmes whether it be attending a class hosting an event or just having a chat with us about ways we can get involved with other local projects.

If you are interested in our work or attending any of you classes please do visit our website or give us a call on 07590 077 460

As a special treat to Dulwich OnView readers, we are also offering a free place at our Valentines Special class (worth £35) which takes place on 14th Feb 10am-1pm where you can make a unique piece of silver jewellery for yourself or your loved one.
All you have to do to stand a chance of winning a place is to add a relevant comment to any article on Dulwich OnView between now and February 10th. We will pick the name of the commenter at random on February 11th and notify the winner by email.  Please see our prize draw rules for more information.

  1. I think this is an absolutely fabulous idea. I hope that you are really successful and look forward to attending one of your classes in the not so distant future. Good luck

  2. These classes sound great fun – do you do mother and daughter sessions?! It’s always encouraging to read about new business ventures in the local area, especially in the current climate. Good luck with it all.

  3. Hi Tracey,

Thanks for the message, Im glad you like the idea and It would be great to see you at one of the classes, you are more than welcome.

    And Sara,

We don’t specifically do mother and daughter lessons but we have had quite a few mothers and daughters attend the adult classes together. The daughters are all over 16 though. For little ones we do parties and workshops but they are not usually held at the school but in community halls or homes.

Its a nice idea though, thanks for the encouragement!

    All the Best

    Jessica x

What a fabulous idea to set up a local jewellery making school.
A great opportunity to offer local people the chance to be creative. I make jewellery myself from time to time but welcome learning new techniques.
I wish you luck in this venture.
