Tell us and win free tickets.
You’ll have seen plenty of articles on Dulwich OnView promoting film screenings at Dulwich Picture Gallery. GalleryFilm is a monthly film club in Dulwich run by the Friends of the Gallery, but open to anyone, on the third Monday of each month.
The idea is that for your ticket price of £8 (£6 for Friends) you not only get to watch a film on the big screen, but also enjoy some of the added extras we provide such as introductory talks by experts or film-makers, themed refreshments, music, and importantly a free glass of wine (or something else, themed to the film).
People keep telling us that we’ve created a relaxed and friendly atmosphere – it’s so much more than just going to the cinema to watch a film. It’s much more sociable than that.
And we’re quite a sociable bunch who organise it. We meet up a few times a year and programme which films we’d like to see. There’s usually a mix of films, from well-known movies and Oscar winners, to archive film and forgotten classics. We try to offer a wide range.
Later this month we will meet up and agree the films for the rest of the year. It’s usually a lively affair. Of course, we have to reject more films than we accept, and our long list of potential movies is really quite lengthy now.
But we’d like to hear what you have the say. What kinds of movies would you like us to screen at GalleryFilm? Leave us a comment at the bottom of this article and let us know. Suggest a movie you’d really like us to show (and why you want it screened) or perhaps tell us what genre of movies you like best. Musicals? Documentaries? World cinema? Romantic comedy?
We’d really like to know what you want to see. Of course, we won’t be able to include them all, but we’ll see what we can do. We will consider all the suggestions entered – no matter how obscure.
We’ll also enter all the suggestions into a prize draw. One person will win a pair of tickets to any GalleryFilm screening of their choice in 2009. So go on, tell us what you’d like to see on the screen. Closing date for suggestions is Friday 20 February. Usual DOV Prize Draw rules apply.
In the meantime, don’t forget that we’re screening Housewife’s Choice on 19 February, with an introductory talk from a BFI curator.

Id really like to see world cinema films from the recent releases like the orphanige and la vie en rose to old classics like tarkovsky films, its so expensive to see these in central london!
Good idea, Emma. Thanks for that.
Anyone else want to suggest films? If not, it looks like Emma’s going to win herself some tickets!
I’ll second El Orfenato, it was the scariest film I’ve seen for years. On a Spanish theme, what about the Almodovar classics? All About My Mother, Talk To Her, Tie Me Up Tie Me Down – fabulous, sexy, slightly bonkers.
