Sunday 8th and Sunday 15th February – that glorious event at Dulwich Picture Gallery is on the small screen.

We’ve been trying to get on the Antiques Roadshow to Dulwich Picture Gallery for years.
Kate Knowles, the Gallery’s head of communications, was lucky enough to know one or two of the presenters, and so has tried several times. The powers that be always said the Gallery was too small… but luckily the last time she tried, they came down with engineers and producers, and fell in love with the place and decided that because of the large garden, the Gallery was big enough.
And if enough people prayed for good weather and it didn’t rain, the Roadshow would go ahead. So everyone prayed like mad (thanks to viral marketing), and given that it was the wettest summer for years, the prayers worked and the sun shone -and the Antiques Roadshow were so pleased with what they filmed and the huge number of people who came bearing interesting antiques (one a carved banana made from ivory but so like a real banana you just couldn’t tell the difference), that they made two programmes out of all the material they filmed.
They go out on BBC1 on Sunday 8 and Sunday 15 February at either 7 or 7.30 pm. Watch it, and spread the word….

It’s been great fun watching the show over the last couple of weeks, spotting favourite pictures (and a few favourite people) in the background. Hello Jane, hello Kate! And what a lot of buried treasure Dulwich people had squirrelled away in the attic. Not that anyone was going to sell anything, oh, of course not, been in the family for generations…
