Preparing for ‘The Polish Connection’ at DPG

Antoni Malinowski is the first artist that Dulwich Picture Gallery has ever commissioned.

Antoni Malinowski is the first artist ever to create site specific works for Dulwich Picture Gallery.

He will be filling one of the massive blind arches on the exterior of the Gallery and painting directly onto its interior walls  – and you can watch him do it in May.

In the video below he talks informally about how the exhibition came to be, its connection to Warsaw, his feeling for light and colour, and his use of light sensitive pigments – and bird poo.

He can be seen mixing his own paints and painting the exterior panels while kneeling on them in his studio.

Antoni! I loved your film about the painting you are doing for the exhibition at Dulwich. I adored watching you paint, and cant wait to see the finished article – and I am very excited about seeing you paint the walls inside the Gallery – gazed at by the last King of Poland and all his portraits which are being sent from the Royal Collection at Warsaw.
