Dulwich Garden Safari

7 Dulwich gardens and an exhibition to enjoy. Sunday 7 June, 2 – 6pm

Dulwich garden

Following last year’s tremendously successful Safari fundraising event, Dulwich Helpline – a local charity – is hoping to build on that success this year with another amazing collection of wonderful gardens to enjoy, that are not normally open to the public! The gardens include those attached to two beautiful Huf houses (the ones next to Dulwich Park), an unusual cottage garden, and those featuring vegetable and herb plots, colourful borders……and more!

In addition, there will be tea and homemade cakes – which are always well received.

An other additional attraction at one of the 7 gardens open will be an art exhibition by professional artist, Gail Gosschalk (watch out for a DOV interview with Gail on Friday).

Gail was raised in Dulwich and she says “From JAGS’ phenomenal art department I went to Wimbledon School of Art and then to Newcastle where I studied Womenswear, drawing always being my obsession. Work experience led me from New York to Paris where I have settled. As a freelance illustrator, clients include Hermès and Flammarion and I work mainly on commission for made-to-measure illustration and decoration projects.” Out of any sales made or commissions taken on the day, Gail will very kindly be donating 15% to Dulwich Helpline.

Writes Caroline Dunmall of Dulwich Helpline:

“We are hoping to raise between £2,500 and £3,000, and we are also hoping to raise the profile of our charity in the local community in order to attract new volunteers, and individuals or local businesses/organisations who would be interested in supporting us financially with a donation, running fundraising events for us, or joining our new Friends of Dulwich Helpline scheme!

There will be also be a plant stall – most of the plants having been raised by a volunteer! We are very much hoping that local garden centres will donate some to us as well!”

Dulwich Helpline is a small registered charity based in Dulwich Community Hospital. With their team of approx. 185 volunteers, they provide friendly emotional and practical support to isolated older people aged 60+ living in Dulwich and neighbouring areas. This support can take the form of visiting an older person once a week or fortnight for a chat and cup of tea, giving transportation to one of their 20 activity groups (e.g. Poetry, Music, Art Appreciation, Reminiscence etc), doing basic gardening, helping with an “odd job” round the home, or accompanying someone shopping. They currently support over 300 local people each year.

So come “on safari”, enjoy some stunning local gardens, and support this worthy local charity!

Tickets on the day from 4 Woodyard Lane, SE21.
Adults – £5, Children 16 and under – free.  Sorry, no dogs.
