Forget the Spanx, corsets and magic tights as you head out to this years festive frolics. Instead make sure you’re body can handle anything by keeping active and thinking ahead. Before attending a boozy bash have a healthy meal and you won’t fall into the pit lined with fatty finger foods. With company do’s you often select from the menu choices beforehand so go for the lightest option.

Here’s a little food (actually it’s more like a feast) for thought – your typical Christmas dinner comprising; Parma ham and melon starter, roast turkey, date and walnut stuffing, bacon rolled sausages, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, baked onions, steamed sprouts, glazed steamed carrots, cranberry jelly, steamed Christmas pudding with brandy sauce and brandy butter, plus four glasses of wine/champagne and two mince pies for good measure – all adds up to a whopping 2, 600 calories!

An excellent method of ensuring you don’t add any extra insulation to your figure this winter is to exercise and work off that amount of calories every 7 – 10 days in the lead up to Christmas. Stick to your regular fitness regime incorporating a high level of aerobic training and resistance exercises. Not only will you feel angelically virtuous sitting down to your Christmas dinner but your body’s metabolic rate will be sufficiently high to tackle the issue of burning off all of those calories. As a result we won’t be faced with the insurmountable problem of needing to lighten the load as 2010 rolls in.

Wishing you all a very healthy and happy Christmas.
