The horror of the Haiti Earthquake has left many of us wondering what we can do to help. Some local Dulwich residents have come up with an idea and need your donations.

Please mark February 7th in your diaries as it’s an appeal day for the victims of the Haiti earthquake disaster which is being held at the Christison Hall in Dulwich College. A clutch of local Dulwich people including Hillary Peachey and Bert and Emma Suer have managed to whip up a “table top sale” event to be held between 1 and 4pm that Sunday. There will be an entry fee of £1 (kids go free).
They urgently require donations of quality items such as unwanted Christmas gifts, toys, books, CDs, DVDs, nearly new items, tombola prizes, wine for the raffle, cakes, etc. Details of the situation faced by the population of Haiti in the aftermath of January 12th can be found on the DEC website.
According to Bert, “There were three reasons why we wanted to do this; firstly of course to do something, however small, to help the people of Haiti – we all get swamped with sensationalist news 24/7, but the scale and severity of this disaster was truly shocking.
Secondly, there is a massive source of mostly unharnessed power in the community, and it is very important for that to be mobilised, and seen to be mobilised; especially by the youngsters who need to realise what is possible, and to see their context, in terms of their society and the world.
And thirdly, a big jumble sale is great fun, and there will be some terrific items for sale, entertainment, refreshment etc; generally a super day out. We want to thank everyone who has helped so far -Dulwich College, the Dulwich Estate, Winkworths, Sterling Greenaway and Signs Depot, and all the helpers of course.”
All items for the table top sale can be dropped off from Monday, February 1st to Saturday February 6th, between 10am to 2pm at:
19 Croxted Road (formerly Stapleton Long) or
19a Half Moon Lane (next to The Fringe)
