‘She sits alone as if she has no purpose, if the walls could talk they’d probably have nothing to say.
She lets out her emotions on that one keyboard, she doesn’t need to look at it same as she cannot control her emotions. She decides to turn away from the odd looking keyboard as if she’s turning away from her troubles, the blank stare could represent a wall blocking her to look further, her blank expression could lead to many thoughts, thoughts gather and gather like magnets, bit by bit. These thoughts orbit her brain almost becoming dominant. She can’t control her emotions and trail of thought it comes so naturally same as her playing the odd keyboard without looking.
Reflecting her blank expressionless body the double bass just stands there lonely and untouched.
The half filled glass of red liquid accompanied by the complete empty glass suggests that her imagination may be running wild, that she hopes for someone to come along but for the time being it’s just her alone.’

Art Slam
A partnership project between Dulwich Picture Gallery and SE1 United, a youth-led organisation for young people aged 11-19 in the Waterloo area.
A group of young people from SE1 United have formed a writers group and DPG are kick starting the project with a creative writing and visual art fusion called Art Slam.
A well known author, Courttia Newland, has spent many weeks inspiring and challenging the young people with their writing, often using images as a starting point. The young people were also introduced to the DPG collection and have written some pieces based on the works.
DPG then sent in a professional artist, Drew Sinclair, to work with the young people and help translate their words into a visual piece.

Beautifully spoken words capturing a mood so eloquently… amazing piece of writing. Keep up the good work Latifah… expect to see your name on the side of a book spine some day – if I do I will pick it up.
Wow, Latifah, you are very talented. It has been a real pleasure to share the ‘Artslam’ experience with you and watch you in action. I must big up Courttia, Drew and Nicola as well as Jean Michel, Scarlett, Holly and all the young people involved. Wishing you all the best in future and many more creative journeys around the sun… All My Love, Melbz @ SE1 United, xxxx
