LIVE AT THE GALLERY
Monday 12 September
Dulwich Picture Gallery is hosting emerging bands with an evening of post rock and folk featuring The Last Dinosaur, Opaque Nature and Dave Gerard.
The Last Dinosaur are two friends (Jamie Cameron and Luke Hayden with Rachel Lanskey on viola) who stay up very late and make beautiful music, playing all the instruments themselves and letting their imaginations run wild.
“Listening to The Last Dinosaur is like reverting to a far away childhood, full of innocence and soft-light pictures that cling to the memories of safety and comfort.” Hooray! For Happiness was released in April 2010.
The Line of Best Fit - “One of the most refreshing, creative and inventive records of the year.”
4or The Record – “This is a masterpiece, and each second is a reminder of that”

Opaque Nature Leamington Spa (UK) based band with influences including Bon Iver, Stars, Mumford & Sons, Grizzly Bear, Fleet Foxes, Efterklang, Beach House (definitely check all these out). We play our own music which has a kind of modern folk feel to it but with some gentle drum loops and effected vocals added into the mix. We love playing our music to people and we love other people playing music to us.

Dave Gerard (video below) and James Frid play a host of Folk/Acoustic tracks, twisting various instruments (Guitar, Banjo, Mandolin Percussion), guitar tunings and vocal melodies together to make a rich and unique sound.
Gerard and Frid seem to have already usurped the ‘standard’ folk formula and carved out a sound that is unique, emotive and genuinely, genuinely exciting.
Influences – Nick Drake, John Martyn, Scott Matthews, Neil Young, Fleet Foxes Bombay Bicycle Club, Fairport Convention, Laura Marling, Johnny Flynn, Cat Stevens, Noah and the Whale, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, James Taylor

What a great evening. Probably the first time Dulwich Picture Gallery has hosted young emerging bands. A big success, it will happen again. Keep a lookout on the Live At The Gallery facebook page http://on.fb.me/nLeTvB
