Sketching Barbara Hepworth’s sculpture in Dulwich Park‏

I did this painting whilst on one of my regular visits to the park, sitting on a seat near the sculpture, which has always fascinated me.

I have liked Barbara Hepworth’s work for years, and it was a pleasure to do this small quick watercolour and ink sketch.

I displayed the painting at an exhibition of my work in the Pavilion Cafe in Dulwich Park and to my delight it was purchased by the owners of the Cafe, where it is now on display.

About Bernard: I live in Herne Hill and I have been painting since I retired in 2000. I try to paint in a loose manner, capturing the moment.

  1. What a beautiful painting – so glad the cafe bought it so that it can live on in the park.

Thank you for sharing this. Yet another example of how the Hepworth meant so much to people.

The violence with which the sculpture was hacked from its plinth leaves many scars. That the piece itself spawned further art is satisfying to know.
