We’re off to Barcelona…

There is this massive annual international museum conference called MuseumNext and it kicks off on Thursday.

MuseumNext 2011

The conference looks at how museums and galleries can benefit from new technology and the latest web trends. The two day conference brings together over 200 delegates from more than 20 countries to discuss debate and discover ‘what’s next?

There will be lots of presentations, workshops, parties, networking…. and we will be there.

Dulwich OnView (DOV) applied and was accepted to give a 15 minute presentation at the conference in Barcelona, possibly because we are such a unique blog.

So what makes Dulwich OnView so unique? DOV celebrates culture, people, events and other subjects in the community, we also blog with and about Dulwich Picture Gallery. We’ve had hundreds of local people contributing articles, photographs and comments; the blog is a fantastic snapshot of the local area created by people who live in it.

DOV particpated in several conferences around the world! Jonathan and Ingrid at the MW2010

We have also won a major international award ‘Best of the Web‘ small museum site at the Museums and the Web in Denver, Colorado, last year along with the MOMA NY and the V&A. Most recently we won the top London 101 blogs. Well done us. A great big pat on the back!

The conference will be a great opportunity for us to talk about how DOV was created, encourages participation and reaches out to new audiences.

We have worked really hard to prepare for the conference…sleepless nights and tiring days! But it was well worth it and I can’t wait to talk about how unique we are and how much we love ‘you’ the community. So thank you to all our contributors and readers for making us such a unique and successful blog.

We will also be picking up lots of information, ideas, and inspiration from the experts in the field of museums and digital technology – I’ll update you with news and info as it happens live on Twitter: @dulwichonview.

You can read about our Barcelona experience on DOV soon. Adios…for now!

About Shapa Begum

Born and raised in East Dulwich, I've been the Editor of Dulwich OnView since 2010. I'm also part of the Communications team at Dulwich Picture Gallery. I love what I do here at Dulwich OnView, I'm absolutely passionate about south London and reaching out to local communities. When not working, I love to read (reading 'The Hobbit' at the moment), visit museums and hole up in a café somewhere. I am currently working on a new article series for DOV - Hotdesking in south London! (coming soon).
