Have you ever tried Wine Tasting before? Are you looking for a fun and informative night out with the chance to win some great prizes and aid a good cause at the same time? Next Thursday 11th July the Waterfront pub in Streatham is hosting a fundraising event for brain tumour charity Taylan’s project with a sophisticated twist.
We caught up with event organisers Julia and Alice who both work in the wine industry. Can you tell us what to expect at the event?
A tasting that will make you think twice about wines you might normally avoid. We have got a beautiful selection of wines to showcase which have been lovingly chosen to demonstrate a broad range of styles, countries and grape varieties. Whether you are a complete wine novice or a hardened sniffer and slurper, we want to challenge you to try new things and discover something you like. This isn’t an ordinary wine tasting where you will be lectured for hours about “persistent tannins” or “lingering finishes.” We aim to make something accessible, interesting and above all fun.
What would you say to encourage people who’ve never done wine tasting before to come?
Imagine you meet a stranger one week, and another stranger the next week. Could you have judged which one was taller? Which had lighter hair? The same theory applies when you drink a Sauvignon one week and a Chardonnay the next. Pointing out the difference is a bit of a challenge. However, when you put them side by side at a tasting, suddenly all those flavours you were struggling to agree with on the back label will come to life!
Can you tell us a bit more about the charity you’re supporting?
Taylan’s Project is a Charity founded by our colleague, Andy Rawlinson, to fund the fight against brain tumours after his son, Taylan, tragically died aged 7. We want to help people in situations like Andy and his family by funding research to find cures for this devastating illness.
Brain tumours receive less than 1% of the national spend on cancer research in the UK. They cannot be prevented as their cause is unknown, leaving families shattered and torn over the loss of their loved ones. Please help this project by buying a ticket to our event and supporting a very worthy cause.
What other things (e.g. prizes, food etc) will be on offer on the night?
We will be providing some nibbles to eat while you sip on your wine. The waterfront pub also does the finest stone baked Pizzas in Streatham which are very reasonably priced. We will also be running a raffle on the night with the chance to win some fine wine and a magnum of champagne.
How do you book and pay for tickets?
You can pay for tickets on the door or if you want to do so in advance you can donate online via our justgiving page http://www.justgiving.com/EnotriaTaylan Remember to write your name in the comments box and that you are donating for a ticket to this event. Tickets cost £16
The accessible and fun event is on Thursday 11th July, starts at 7pm and is not to be missed! The nearest station (Streatham) is an easy ten minutes’ walk away.
