The Ukulele Handbook at Dulwich Books

Save the date! On Tuesday 1st October at 7pm Gavin Pretor-Pinney and Tom Hodgkinson will be appearing at Dulwich Books to talk about their new book, ‘The Ukulele Handbook’. This is their story of a small guitar that charmed the world.

Tom and GavinMeet the famous idlers and ukulele obsessives Tom Hodgkinson and Gavin Pretor-Pinney as they present this charming guide for all aspiring Formbys. They explain the history of this irresistible instrument, how to play, tune and strum it, and even throw in a couple of songs. Ukuleles welcome!

Gavin and Tom have long been uke fans. They were both taken by the charms of this little four-stringed guitar in 2006. With a ukulele, you don’t need to spend years practising and playing, you can pick it up and be playing three chords within an hour. Furthermore, you can sing and play the uke, at  the same time.

Tom says ‘ I loved this co-production with my old friend Gavin Pretor-Pinney, with whom I worked on the Idler for 14 years. Gav runs the Cloud Appreciation Society and also wrote The Cloudspotter’s Guide. He has now has collaborated with me on putting together this gorgeous book about the ukulele‘.
