Its that time of year again. As traditional as the turkey, the tree and the January sales are new years resolutions…however long they last!
Luckily, however, there is loads going on in South London to help you keep up the enthusiasm long after the Christmas tree has been recycled.
So whether you want to get fit, discover a new hobby, experience interesting art or learn how to be calmer here are our top picks for trying something different in 2016:
Try Landscape Painting in the Dutch Italianate style at Dulwich Picture Gallery on Sundays 17 & 24 January, 10am – 4pm. Working with professional artist Jo Lewis participants will take inspiration from paintings in the Gallery’s permanent collection and from the gardens. Learn through careful observation and discussion in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. £100 or £90 concessions.
Get fit with Brixton’s Shake that Zumba. Run by the most energetic instructor I have ever met, Stephen Ochan these classes are always enjoyable, sociable, interactive and extremely good value for money (£6 per session). They can also be quite challenging as they include ab work at the end of an hour’s session but Stephen makes everyone feel comfortable and his classes are always packed out with people of all different ages and fitness levels. There are a range of options throughout the week including Beginner’s Hip Hop Classes on Thursdays and they often run free one-offs during the summer on Clapham common. Getting fit has never been so much fun.
Discover the benefits of Mindfulness with an eight week course starting on 21st January at Dulwich College run by qualified instructor Caroline Hughes. Starts on Thursday January 21 from 7.30 – 9 pm at JAGS sports club (Dulwich). For more information and to sign-up contact Caroline on 07909 995 336 or email email@example.com. £190.00 which includes a book and a CD.
Those who want to exercise whilst searching for inner peace could try The Yoga Room in East Dulwich and now even cynics can be persuaded to take part in the latest mindfulness craze with The Passive Aggressive colouring book.
Get your office team to raise money for a fantastic arts charity by taking part in London Bubbles’ Flipping Marvellous Charity Pancake Race which takes place on Tuesday 9th February 12.30pm – 2pm. In aid of London Bubble’s Young Theatre Makers the event is a triathlon of race, treasure hunt and flip off and is £250 per team to enter. For more info contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
See some fringe theatre at Vault Festival, one of London’s freshest, most innovative and exciting arts festivals…well ever!
