On Saturday 18 June, Dog Kennel Hill Primary School held its big annual summer fair.
Since leaving primary school many years ago (I attended DKH), I try my best to attend the summer fair every year without fail. Though as I got older, I couldn’t get stuck in as a kid taking part in the usual fun games, bouncy castle, biscuit decorating, lucky duck, face painting and hair braiding. However they do have a nice BBQ and International Café, cake & book stall for all, as well as a photo shoot section.
This year was a little different as I went along with my 6 month old baby. He enjoyed looking around, seeing the kids play and the buzzing atmosphere of the fair. I had the chance to take him to the nursery playground which had crafts and games, storytelling and trikes for the younger children.
My favourite stall is the strawberries and cream stall – it’s there every year, without fail. The stall is always run by the lovely Mrs Cranmer (she was my sister’s infant teacher).
The fair was in for a musical treat this year, with performances from each year group. I was able to catch the year 6 Steel Pans, and the Brass Band, and the Year 3 Samba Band, who were joined for a fantastic finale by the South London Samba Band.
All in all, it was a fine day, a tread down memory lane and a stimulating visit for baby Ayman.
