My name is Iris and I love to cook! I am eight years old and started cooking about a year ago in my kitchen in East Dulwich.
Chicken in breadcrumbs is one of my favourite things to eat and when I realised how easy it is to make, I thought I would see what other favourite foods I could cook. I like to watch lots of cookery programmes like Masterchef and Top Chef so one day we filmed a video of me cooking chicken in panko breadcrumbs and put it on YouTube for my friends and family to watch and they all liked it!
My favourite foods are sushi, Vietnamese, pizza and Sri Lankan and I have cookery videos with all of these different foods. You can watch the videos on my Iris Cooks Food cookery blog and I like to cook with my friends who are chefs. My chef inspiration is Maya who is Head Chef at Pretty Tapas which is currently at House of Tippler on Lordship Lane. I have cooked three videos with Maya so far – churros, crispy squid and mussels. I would really like to work in a kitchen when I am older and Maya gives me lots of useful tips. In our most recent video, she shows me how to chop spring onions with a sharp knife, and she also told me that mussels stay fresh longer if you keep the beardy bit on them!
I have lots of great cookery videos coming up soon with the Crust Conductor pizza bus, Dee from The Begging Bowl and Melange Chocolate in Peckham. I’d also love to cook with lots of local chefs so do get in touch by sending me a message on my blog.
Here is my most recent video with Maya where we cooked mussels from Moxons in a creamy saffron and white wine sauce. It is so yummy and easy to make so have a look at the video and give it a go. Keep checking back for more recipes soon!
