A community fridge in Brixton

Peoples-FridgeA community fridge has been launched in Brixton where you can donate spare food to those in need.

The fridge is London’s first community fridge, bought and paid for by the community through a crowdfunding campaign. Its main aim is to provide food to those in need.

It’s thought that we throw away about £17 billion worth of food every year – that’s a lot of wasted food! Hence the community fridge will enable people and businesses to donate spare food or food that would otherwise go to waste. Others can then go to the fridge to pick up what they need.

The new fridge is situated in the heart of Brixton inside Pop Brixton – an outdoor space run by foodie stalls and independent businesses –  traders have agreed to help stock and clean the fridge each day.
