Dulwich Books supports local authors

It was a full house when three local authors gathered at Dulwich Books in Croxted Road to talk about their novels and also to read excerpts.

Sue Gillie talked about her debut novel Not my Child, a tense family drama in which lies and betrayal threaten a marriage. Tony Emerson presented his novel Unlikely Alliances, a tale set in the future about a community coming together to combat climate change. Finally, Pia Helena Ormerod, (a frequent contributor to Dulwich OnView) read from her novel Junk Male, dealing with a woman who has to learn to cope on her own as her 20 year marriage falls apart.

It turned out to be a very successful evening, maybe helped by the wine. The three author were delighted that they sold so many copies of their books and with the positive reaction from the audience.

For those that could not attend, their books are available at Dulwich Books. “This wonderful book shop is very much involved with the local community and does all it can to help authors in this area” says Pia. “It is a true hub for us locals.”

The three authors are part of a larger writing group under the guiding hand of Maggie Smith, a much respected teacher of creative writing. The group meets regularly and discuss and give positive criticism of each other’s work. “We learn a lot from each other,” admits Tony.

In order to promote their novels, Tony, Sue and Pia have now formed Silverscribblers, a forum for comments and news – you can find more information at their website.

You can order any of these novels from the website or directly from the authors.
