The Dulwich Players like nothing better than uprooting themselves from the comfort of the Edward Alleyn Theatre to bring their productions to the heart of Dulwich Village!
Having regularly performed Shakespeare in the gardens of the Dulwich Picture Gallery Gardens over the past few years, we are delighted, for the second year running, to be returning to St Barnabas Church Hall in Dulwich Village which was previously the home for our productions for many years.
The Wolves of Willoughby Chase is a musical stage adaptation of Joan Aiken’s classic children’s story of two young girls and their fight against their evil guardian, Miss Slighcarp and her equally evil side-kick, Mr Grimshaw, in a wintery landscape plagued by ravenous wolves! With a chorus of narrators who both tell and interact with the story (plus play a myriad of different parts) it was an ideal production to put on at Christmas as a follow-up to last year’s pantomime. As the director, competing with a cast of 12 actors and singers plus the live band, is no mean challenge. We are currently making a lot of noise in a number of different rehearsal venues in and around Dulwich and hope that our very local production will get the audience into the spirit of Christmas.
