Great coffee at Kanella & Co.

When the old toy shop ‘Soup Dragon‘ closed its doors many years back, my childhood came to an end. Although I miss going into the toy shop and making my way to the back to find a new toy to buy and play with, the shop’s closure was an end of an era for me. I was growing up and sadly left toys behind.

Lordship Lane has seen many changes throughout the last decade with many new shops, cafes and restaurants opening up, including the new toy shop, Just Williams Toys, which took East Dulwich by storm, bringing in many new customers and a whole new generation of children’s toys.

A great selection of pastries

As I grew older I found love and appreciation for other things such as the arts, aviation, travelling, photography and also food and coffee. I love visiting new places and trying new things and coffee for me is one of those things. Anytime I see a new coffee shop, I try to find time to visit it and order myself a little treat.

You can also buy olive oil, Kalamata olives, tapenade, oregano, mountain tea, biscuits and more wondrous things inside.

Kanella & Co. is a family-run business, a coffee shop/cafe with Greek inspiration, which opened its doors back in March 2017. But I must admit, I only took notice of it this year when I walked past the shop on one of my daily walks. It made me wonder, what is this new coffee shop that stands in place of my former childhood toy shop?.

I visited Kanella & Co. for breakfast after one of my morning walks, the first drink I ordered was a Latte. As I stepped outside and took my first sip, I instantly fell in love with it! It was so good that I shared it with my fellow followers on social media.

I quickly learned about the range of coffees, teas, drinks and milk options they have including the Oatly Barista Edition Oat milk - which I use in my hot drinks at home – I was glad to find a coffee shop which was able to use this brand in my morning coffee. And it tastes so much better as it’s made professionally by a barista.

My personal favourites are the Latte and the Chai Tea with Oat milk, but I am still yet to discover and try more from their menu.

I am always welcomed by Alex (Owner) and Dan (Head Barista) every morning with a friendly smile and a swift service. That’s what makes this place even more brilliant, I’m really loving this coffee shop and can’t wait for Kanella & Co. to open up its seating area, once the roadmap for lifting lockdown goes well. For now, be sure to visit for a grab and go takeaway.
