10-19 May 2013
The biggest names in international street art are creating murals in Dulwich during May in association with the Dulwich Festival
This month the streets of Dulwich will be transformed as renowned street artists from around the world create an outdoor gallery of public murals.
All of the street works will be based upon Baroque era Old Master paintings from Dulwich Picture Gallery’s permanent collection.
Many will be painting live on the first weekend of Artists’ Open House between 10-12 May.
Street art is one of the most vital new global movements in the world of art. This project explores the place of street art in the continuum of art history as the current masters of the streets reinterpret and remix the works of the masters of old.
The international group of artists have also taken over a house in Dulwich, 265 Lordship Lane, for six weeks before it is demolished, thanks to the generosity of Lightbox London. The whole outside of the house will be painted and the artists will create installation works throughout the interior.
The house will be opened to the public for one weekend over 18-19 May, 11am - 6pm.
Launch party Friday 17 May, 8-10pm. (Private view and press 6-8pm by invitation only)
